He began his career in 1925 and was consistently assigned to the elite “schnelle Truppen“ motorized infantry units. He was part of the first organization of the 2 Panzer Division and took command of K2 / Kompanie 3 in 1935. He led this unit thru fighting in Poland, France, Greece and Russia. By the start of the eastern front campaign, he was the battalion commander. In Russia, some months later, he was killed shortly after taking command of Kradschutzen Battalion 45.
