To make the training as realistic as possible, the threat units use tactics lifted directly from the Soviet "how to fight" manuals. They have the distinct advantage of intimate knowledge of the terrain at the NTC as well as an understanding of the "usual " mistakes made by US units rotating through the training center. It is seldom a fair fight and the visiting units generally consider a tactical problem a success if they partially complete their mission. --Scott Cunningham
