The 2nd Panzer Division and the men of K2 attacked along a northeast axis into Poland on the far southern front after being stationed in forward assembly areas in northern Czechoslovakia on 1 September, 1939. Paired with the 4th Light Division and assigned to the XXII Armored Corps, the basic mission was to seal the southern wing of the German attack. 2 Panzer was commanded by Lieutenant General Veiel, K2 was commanded by Lieutenant Colonel Stollbrock.
