With this final image, soldier Olbrun lets us know that the end of his obligation arrives with the Fall of 1939 and he has other plans. It may have been many difficult years, before he returned to lazy days at the pool. K2 and the 2 Panzer Division participated in the invasion of Poland in September of 1939, anchoring the southern wing of the attack. Shortly afterwards, the division played a key role in the invasion of France, returned briefly to Vienna and then lined up for the attack of Greece in March 1941. The group of draftees called to service in 1937 was never released to the reserves. | |
