Kradschutzen 2 Combat Album Overview: These images are part of a mega album related to the Kradschutzen Battalion 2, the first combat unit assigned to Manteuffel Kaserne in Bad Kissingen, after it opened in 1937. The photos were taken by three brothers, all members of the battalion; there was a junior NCO older brother, and then a pair of junior enlisted twins. The album begins when the twins are assigned to Manteuffel and begin their basic training with the unit. It then progresses in rough time line fashion, thru the movement to Austria, various training exercises, participation in the Anschluss of Austria, parades to include one with Hitler and then off to the war in Poland and France. Of the three brothers, one is killed in Poland and one dies much later in Russia and one survived the war. The album was brought to the market by a current day German Army NCO who also finds and then sells Nazi related items on E Bay D. He sold this album as a consignment from the daughter of the one surviving brother. The album sold at auction for 1200 Euros, about $1550, won by a collector in Belgium. I was the second place bidder. Graciously, the seller sent me scans of many but not all of the photos. Individual photos / albums related to the K2 are currently highly collectable, recently a small group of photos linked to this unit sold for $50 each - amazing! I have added a few captions, just to add some rough organization to the story. |
